Yeats Country

Dominated by the magnificent Benbulben Mountains, Sligo is also known as the Yeats County, as the poet spent a lot of his childhood in the county which influenced his writing. His grave also lies in a cemetery near the top of the mountains.

It has a rich culture of art and music but offers the sea and coastal life, with Sligo being located on the Surf Coast of the Wild Atlantic Way.

The North of Co. Sligo, including Sligo Town, is a busy well-populated locality with modern educational facilities.

The South, East and West of the county are more rural, with small towns like Ballymote, Tubbercurry and Enniscrone offering very busy and quality communities that also offer quality primary and secondary education.

Tubbercurry is the second town of Co. Sligo and is a fine old town with a community spirit second to none. Most of Co. Sligo is within a 30-40 minute drive of Sligo town.
