    Famous for the setting of the film 'The Quiet Man' with John Wayne, mayo is a rural and rugged county with beautiful scenery situated on the west coast of Ireland. The vibrant towns of Castlebar, Ballina and Westport have that undeniable west of Ireland charm.

    Mayo is also known for its spirituality, being home to Croagh Patrick where St Patrick fasted for forty days and nights, and Knock Shrine, where it is said that Mary, St John the Evangelist and St Joseph appeared in 1879. Every year pilgrims flock to the mountain to climb it in honour of St Patrick.

    Achill Island, Ireland's largest island, lies off the west coast of the county, and is well known for its sandy beaches and cliffs.

    Westport is a highly desirable area to live. It's located on the edge of an Atlantic inlet and has wild scenery but an unrivalled social scene and a great sense of community.
